SCS is committed to making learning as accessible as possible both locally and across the globe. We are continuously expanding our list of over 540 online learning opportunities. From languages to accounting, we offer flexible learning opportunities.

Our online courses are instructor-led and delivered through the University of Toronto’s Learning Management Engine – Quercus. Quercus uses weekly, real time modules and has tools for engagement and community building. Course preparation has built in flexibility so you can read, study, and complete assignments on your own time.

You will communicate with your instructors via discussion boards and/or email. Some online courses include live, interactive webinars. If you’re unable to attend the live webinar, you will be able to view a recording of the webinar on your own schedule.

Discover the benefits of an embodied movement practice to help participants integrate past trauma. In this course, you’ll acquire the basic tools to practice in a group with ample time for experiential learning. By combining theory and practice, you’ll gain direct experience of mindful movement practices, including Trauma-Informed Yoga and Somatic Experiencing (SETM). You'll study the impacts and neuroscience of stress and trauma so you can share gentle movement practices in a safe environment and adapt them for various populations.  Identify and explain the basic tenets of Mindful Movement.  Describe the impacts of trauma on the nervous system and the basic elements of the stress response system.  Learn and practice interoception during gentle Mindful Movement practices.   Explore how to share a simple movement practice while creating a safe as possible environment. Learn how to adapt the practices for various populations.  Discuss and demonstrate the use of inquiry while facilitating Mindful Movement.

All the recorded presentations of the University Lecture Series from the St George Campus are now available to explore and revisit as often as you like. Look over the shoulder of a Roman emperor, a young Jewish girl and a Vietnamese Zen monk. Revisit the 2nd century A.D., the 1940’s and 1960s in Austria, Holland, the US and Vietnam. These are the times of the Antonine plague, the Marcomannic wars, fascism, and the Vietnam war. All three journal-keepers witness close up the darkness of the human heart. Yet, the Stoic philosopher-emperor, the young Jewish girl who “shakes of all [her] cares” with words, and the Buddhist monk ("Thay") pen journals that are deeply life-affirming. Marcus, Anne and Thay offer us handbooks for living with resilience, purpose and joy.  Examine all three journals in the context of their life and time. Discuss journals as a literary form and as a way of self-exploration.  Learn principles of Stoicism, Buddhism and artistic creativity as a way of life. If you wish to do so, keep a journal for the duration of this class and receive optional journaling guidance and prompts weekly.

This course is for you if you've successfully completed the SCS Korean Level V or have the equivalent language skills. This course is designed for intermediate-level learners (B1 on the CEFR grid). Advance your Korean-language skills in speaking, writing, listening and reading at the intermediate level. We will equally emphasize these four skills throughout this course. You'll have opportunities to strengthen your reading skills through various historical and cultural articles and gain more confidence in speaking.   Become proficient in speaking, writing, listening, and reading at the intermediate level. Expand your reading ability with more knowledge of idiomatic expressions and real-world language. Compose a personal letter and a journal. Gain more insight into the cultural and historical background of Korea today.

Why read poetry? For many of us, poetry was the class we disliked in high school. However, poetry performs a unique and important function in society. It is the earliest form of literary expression and still arguably the most sophisticated way of expressing the human condition. With scholar and educator, Jonathan Ullyot, discover some of the ways that poems work as art and as mirrors of life. We'll cover a wide range of poetic voices in English including women, aristocrats, paupers, and revolutionaries. Expect to discover the pleasure of reading poetry. By the close of the semester, you’ll: Understand the mechanics of poetry effectively and offer interpretations based on the poet's choice of meter and form Acquire a larger vocabulary to describe what a poem does to the reader emotionally and artistically Have a clearer idea of why poetry matters
