SCS is committed to making learning as accessible as possible both locally and across the globe. We are continuously expanding our list of over 540 online learning opportunities. From languages to accounting, we offer flexible learning opportunities.

Our online courses are instructor-led and delivered through the University of Toronto’s Learning Management Engine – Quercus. Quercus uses weekly, real time modules and has tools for engagement and community building. Course preparation has built in flexibility so you can read, study, and complete assignments on your own time.

You will communicate with your instructors via discussion boards and/or email. Some online courses include live, interactive webinars. If you’re unable to attend the live webinar, you will be able to view a recording of the webinar on your own schedule.

You learned the basics in 1023 Chinese (Cantonese): Level I - now expand your fluency in Level II. You'll discover a greater variety of grammatical structures and improve your conversational skills. You'll increase your knowledge of southern Chinese history and culture, and learn some social etiquette and practices. By this course's end you'll feel more comfortable greeting people, shopping, dining, giving instructions and directions, describing people and places, sharing ideas and exchanging information. You'll also learn some of the most common and useful Chinese characters. Speak in and understand complete simple sentences using correct grammar, syntax and vocabulary. Understand social etiquette and practices. Get to know the principles of the Chinese writing system.

Express yourself more accurately and eloquently by improving your English grammar in this 10-week course. You’ll get the strong foundation you need to write and speak more clearly, precisely and persuasively. You’ll explore the relationship between words in sentences, analyze structure and meaning, clarify common problem points and improve punctuation. You’ll get opportunities to practise with your peers and get helpful feedback. You’ll also learn what resources are best for ongoing grammar help. Expect three hours of homework a week. Speak and write English more precisely. Use correct grammar and syntax. Learn how simple, complex, and compound sentences are formed. Analyze common problems – and how to solve them. If you want to master writing copy that engages and sells, this course is for you. Taught by an experienced copywriter, this course combines instruction with real-world examples and practical exercises to show you how to write marketing materials that work. You'll learn elements of persuasion and tricks of the trade, so you can write winning websites, emails, ads, landing pages, direct mail and more. Learn to brainstorm, outline, summarize, and edit using generative AI tools, while applying critical thinking skills to fact-check, customize, and improve the AI writing outputs. This course takes the mystery out of crafting winning headlines, structuring and writing body copy, and composing motivating calls-to-action. You'll also receive constructive feedback on your assignments. Master the basics of writing marketing copy that motivates and persuades. Be able to plan a copywriting project and generate an abundance of good ideas and concepts. Know several practical techniques for writing winning headlines, body copy, and other text elements. Be able to skillfully write the most common types of copywriting projects: ads, emails, landing pages, direct mail, website pages, and more. While using AI tools (like ChatGPT, Jasper, and others) in your writing, develop your own unique voice.

Mastering the art of presenting and communicating in a convincing, credible and persuasive manner is an asset that will be of benefit to you. This course prepares you to write and deliver effective speeches and presentations. You'll get important pointers on etiquette and body language and learn how to conquer any fears about addressing a large audience. You'll learn to structure, write and communicate a well-defined message that is impactful and dynamic, in addition to learning how to master the question and answer period. To work as a translator, you need to understand how to transpose ideas from one language to another in fields such as law, business and literature. This course will teach you how to produce precise translations that preserve the integrity and essence of the original work. You'll learn to analyze and accurately translate real-world texts in poetry and prose from the literary world, screenplays and scripts, and texts for videogames, websites and comic books that require linguistic localization.  Most assignments are translations from English to Portuguese.   Translate more complex material.
