French is the third largest of the Romance languages in terms of number of native speakers, being spoken by about 87 million people as a mother tongue, and altogether by some 182 million people. Moreover, an extra 82 million people are currently learning French throughout the world. French is thus the 15th most spoken language in the world by number of native speakers, and 5th in terms of daily speakers. It is an official language in 29 countries. French is also an official or administrative language in several communities and international organizations (such as the European Union, International Olympic Committee, World Trade Organization, African Union, International Court of Justice, Interpol and so on) and one of the two working languages of the United Nations.
