SCS Participates in THCC VISION Showcase Awards
This fall, the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies was honoured to be invited to adjudicate the Toronto Hispanic Chamber of Commerce VISION Showcase Awards. The awards, created by the Toronto Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, honour business leaders in Toronto’s Hispanic community.
The selection committee was led by Gordon Davies, Head of Languages, Arts & Sciences, and included committee co-chair Cynthia Bettcher, Special Projects, Wilfred Fong, Chief Information Officer & Director, IT and Digital Learning, Phillip Schalm, Associate Director, Tri-Campus Expansion & Internationally Educated Professionals, and Edward Carson, Chief Business Officer and Associate Director.
As a small-business owner before coming to the School of Continuing Studies, Gordon Davies was uniquely suited to leading the committee. “The promotion of Hispanic businesses is an important part of encouraging growth in the community. An event like the VISION Awards doesn’t just recognize those who are already contributing to this growth, it also encourages future entrepreneurs.” He added that it was a “great privilege” to present the 2012 VISION award for Business of the Year to Edwin Betancur from Beta Electric Group on September 20th, 1012.
The University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies would like to thank everyone at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for including us in this very special event.
