Passing the Financial Risk Manager (FRM)® Exams Levels 1 & 2

GARP® now requires the FRM® designation to be earned by successfully passing two exams – Level 1 and Level 2. Exams for both levels will be held May 19, 2012 and November 17, 2012.

Passing the FRM® Exams Levels 1 and 2 prepare students to write the FRM® exams that must be passed in order to become a FRM® charter holder. The primary focus of these courses is on the quantitative concepts and their application in measuring and managing different types of financial risk. Topics include quantitative analysis, market risk measurement and management, credit risk measurement and management, operational and integrated risk management and risk management for investment companies.

Each course includes 16 classroom sessions, totaling 48 hours of in-class preparation for each of the FRM® exams. Tim Fong, our instructor, has extensive professional experience in derivative analysis and risk management, and also holds a number of financial designations including the FRM designation. Tim also has received excellent testimonials from former students in his financial math and derivatives fundamentals courses.

Key features of the courses are as follows:

  • Adherence to the 2010 FRM® Examination Study Guide and Assigned Readings
  • Weekly sample exam questions with solutions and references 2010 FRM® Examination AIMS Statements
  • 48 hours of instructor-led training
  • One mock examination and four mock quizzes with feedback
  • Detailed case studies and structural examples on challenging topics such as CDOs and GARCH model for forecasting volatility

Learner Outcomes:

  • Mastery of key risk measurement and management concepts such as Value-at-Risk calculation and stress testing
  • Demonstrable understanding of the material necessary to sit the FRM® exam successfully
  • In-depth understanding of emerging financial risk management issues such as correlation risk in CDO products
  • Refinement of examination writing skills

We are committed to your success. If, upon completion of either course, you write the FRM® Level 1 or 2 Exam and do not pass, you may attend the School’s next Passing the FRM® Exams course and pay only the $500 administrative fee for each level.*
