Announcement July 2016
  • IIBA will launch a multi-level certification framework on September 30th, 2016.
  • Beginning this fall the School of Continuing Studies business analysis courses will be based on the IIBA’s BABOK v3.
About International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)
  • As of July 7, 2016, there are more than 6,000 Certified Business Analysis Professional™ (CBAP®) recipients internationally.
  • International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) is the independent non-profit professional association serving the growing field of business analysis. As the global thought leader and voice for the business analysis profession, IIBA® is dedicated to the development and maintenance of standards for the practice of business analysis, and for the certification of practitioners.

Association’s Requirements for Certifications Recognized University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies Courses
Level 1 – Entry Certificate in Business Analysis ™ (ECBA™)
Recognizes individuals entering the field of business analysis.

  1. Professional Development and Experience
    1. 21 hours of professional development in the last 4 years.
    2. No previous BA work experience is required.
  2. Pass the ECBA™ exam.
Options to fulfill the 21 hour professional development requirement:

Level 2 – Certification of Capability in Business Analysis ® (CCBA®)
Recognizes BA professionals who have 2-3 years of business analysis experience.Current professionals with their CCBA® designation will be grandfathered into level 2.

  1. Professional Development and Experience
    1. 21 hours of professional development in the last 4 years.
    2. Requires a minimum of 3,750 hours of work experience in the last 7 years. Also a minimum of 900 hours in each of the 2 BABOK knowledge areas or minimum of 500 hours in each of the 4 BABOK knowledge areas.
  2. Pass the CCBA® exam.
Options to fulfill the 21 hour professional development requirement:

Level 3 – Certified Business Analysis Professional ® (CBAP®)
Recognizes BA professionals who manage and lead with over 5 years of business analysis experience.Current professionals with their CBAP™ will be grandfathered into level 3.

  1. Professional Development and Experience
    1. 35 hours of professional development in the last 4 years.
    2. Requires a minimum of 7,500 hours of work experience in the last 10 years.
  2. Pass the CBAP® exam.
Options to fulfill the 35 hours of professional development analysis requirement:

Level 4 – Certified Business Analysis Thought Leader ™ (CBATL™)
Recognizes BA professionals who advance the BA profession and have over 10 years of experience.

  1. Experience
    1. BA professionals who advance the BA profession and have over 10 years of experience
    2. Have over 10 years, a minimum of 15,000 hours, of business analysis experience
  2. Earning the CBATL™ is assessment based.
