News – Important Update

Update - March 2014 The Certified Management Accountants of Ontario, the Certified General Accountants of Ontario, and the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in support of unification of the accounting profession in Ontario.

CMA Ontario continues in the process of transition to CPA Ontario and delivering the CPA PREP program. We are pleased to confirm that the four School of Continuing Studies courses noted below will continue to be recognized as prerequisites into CPA PREP modules until September, 2015.

The School of Continuing Studies continues to work with CPA, CMA and CGA to determine the recognition of other continuing education courses.

Association’s Requirements for Designation School of Continuing Studies Recognized Courses*
CMA/CPA certification program includes four aspects:

  1. Academic prerequisites for admission to the CPA Professional Education Program: undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution; the degree may be in any discipline
  2. A graduate level CPA Professional Education Program which includes 12 courses as follows :
The following University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies Courses can be taken to fulfil the four first courses of the CPA Professional Education Program:
Introductory Financial Accounting SCS 0984 Accounting: The Fundamentals
Introductory Management Accounting SCS 0983 Management Accounting
Economics SCS 0980 Economics, Introductory
Statistics SCS 0081 Quantitative Methods for Business Management
Intermediate and Advanced Financial Accounting The School of Continuing Studies is working with the CMA/CPA to determine other courses to be recognized. * Specific School of Continuing Studies courses beyond the four recognized courses listed above that were successfully completed by students by August 2013 will receive credit towards the CPA PREP program modules.
