Ontario Building Envelope Council

About the Ontario Building Envelope Council (OBEC)

  • The Ontario Building Envelope Council (OBEC) is dedicated to promoting the highest level of Building Science education in the industry. The BSSO (Building Science Specialist of Ontario) designation recognizes those who meet the strict educational and practical requirements set forth by the BSSO Advisory Board. This designation has quickly become the benchmark qualification of Building Science practitioners. As of January 2014, there are 85 Building Science Specialists of Ontario (BSSO).
  • Since 1987, OBEC has been bridging the gaps amongst the architectural, engineering, research, manufacturers and construction communities. It is a non-profit organization that addresses today’s challenges facing building performance and sustainability. One of OBEC’s keys to success is their dedication to building science education at all levels.
  • OBEC members have access to information forums for the exchange of ideas and information on building science, current technical information and best practices, educational programs for the benefit of the building community, guidance on current trends and issues to the research and development community and recommendations regarding improvements to codes and standards.
