(RIMS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the practice of risk management. Founded in 1950, RIMS represents nearly 4,000 industrial, service, nonprofit, charitable and governmental entities. The Society serves more than 10,700 risk management professionals around the world.

The Global Risk Management Institute, Inc. (GRMI) is the institute, affiliated with the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc., that issues the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation and is the alumni association for individuals who hold the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) or RIMS Fellow (RF) designations.

To receive the CRM, an individual completes the three required courses, sending their grades to GRMI along with a fee. GRMI awards a certificate following receipt of transcripts, verification of completion and the fee. In order to maintain the (CRM) Designation, membership in the Global Risk Management Institute, Inc. (GRMI) must remain current. Course Format – Three Options The University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies makes the three CRM required courses available in three learning formats: in-class, online and by distance.

The in-class courses are available at all three campuses of the U of T: the St. George (Downtown), Mississauga and Scarborough campuses. The online course option covers the same course material through web-based courses involving the interaction with other students. The distance course option covers the same content by email and PDF material.

RIMS Fellow (RF) Designation The three required courses for the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation meet the foundation risk management requirements for the RIMS Fellow (RF) designation. Additional business courses, RIMS workshops and RIMS online courses complete the RIMS Fellow Designation.
